JE2 Task 5

App Design/Games Creation Apprentice

In this apprenticeship I would be entering the world of App/Games Design. I would be tasked with Creating and Expanding new/current software, working as a team and participating with each other, listening to the clients needs and working with software such as Oculus rift, Unity and VB.Net.

The weekly wage would be £125, 37.5 hours a week. This apprenticeship requires 4 GCES's (Maths English IT). This would take place in Southampton.


Games Design Apprentice (PLAYGROUNDSQUAD UK LTD)
In this apprenticeship i would be taught how to kickstart my game ideas, and spark creative thinking. It woul take me through creating a game and help with all stages of development from creating levels to prototyping my ideas.

The weekly wage would be £99, 30 hours a week. This apprenticeship requires A-C GCSE's. This would take place in Thorp Road Manchester Greater Manchester M40 5BJ.

Apprentice Illustrator/Graphic Design
In this apprenticeship i would be creating art word for various games such as educational games and others. I would need to be a good artist both traditional and digital. i would need to have skills with a graphic tablet, good verbals skills and knowledge with adobe photoshop/illustrator.

the weekly wage would be £200. 40 hours per week. This apprenticeship requires no higher then a level 2 in graphic design.

Apprentice IT - Developer/Programmer
In this apprenticeship my duties would be as followed
  • Maintaining procedures and documents
  • Trouble shooting
  • Data processing
  • Website maintenance and modifications
  • Designing bespoke applications
  • Mobile application development
  • General data maintenance
I would have to have a keen interest in IT, be computer literate, and a good team member. I would need 5 GCSE's Including Maths and English language. This would take place at Cygnus

Game Programmer Apprentice

This apprenticeship is the same as the previous Games Design Apprentice from PLAYGROUNDSQUAD. For this apprenticeship iu would be learning how to create 2D/3D Games using C++. I would also be working with Pc and dedicated hardware consoles such as the PS4.
The weekly wage would be £99, 30 hours a week.

Apprentice Video Games Repair Engineer

For this apprenticeship i would need to be confident in front of people due to this apprenticeship being a customer facing role. I would learn how to fix all modern consoles, phones and computers.

The weekly wage would be £132, 40 hours a week. This apprenticeship would last over 4 years. This also requires 4 GCSE's including English maths and IT.

IT Software Apprentice

In this apprenticeship my tasks would include 
  • Receiving customer calls and emails
  • Logging tickets and carrying out basic trouble shooting on customer systems
  • Undertake basic hardware repairs and service on and off site
  • Develop technical solutions to meet customers’ requirements
  • Basic purchasing and stores ordering/dispatching
  • Assist software engineers on implementation of customer projects
  • Review open tickets with customers on a regular basis
Also i would need to be self motivated Good time management skills, Organised friendly and approachable, Good communication skills, Ability to work as part of a team, Enthusiastic and professional attitude.
This would take place at Lakeside Cheadle Greater Manchester SK8 3GP. The weekly wage would be £157, 37.5 hours a week.

Apprentice Digital Sign Maker

For this apprenticeship the  Role will encompass the layout, setup and printing of a range of Digital Signage on various substrates for a variety of uses, including traffic signs, signs for business/retail premises, window display, amusement parks, indoor and outdoor exhibition displays, shop fronts, sports stadiums, bespoke and designs for vehicle bodies.

The weekly wage will be $123.75, 37.5 hours a week. A-D GCSE Grades are required. Stretford Motorway Estate, Stretford Manchester Greater Manchester M32 0ZH.


Creative and Digital Media Apprentice

For this apprenticeship the duties would include 
  • General duties around the design and photography studio,
  • preparing products for photography,
  • image editing,
  • amending design artwork,
  • being involved in design and artwork for print,
  • assisting to update websites.
The weekly wage would be £115.50, 35 hours a week. This apprenticeship would take place at Wyvern Avenue Stockport Greater Manchester SK5 7DD

Creative and Digital Media Apprentice

For this apprenticeship the tasks that i would have includes
  • Designing for digital media (web, user interface, user experience)
  • Designing for print
  • You will learn to contribute creative ideas
  • Staying up to date with design trends and standards
  • Support the design team where needed
  • Demonstrate skills with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Manipulating/editing images for the website
  • Creation and adjustment of digital images
The weekly wage would be £153, 35 hours a week. It would take place at Vicarage Lane Bowdon Altrincham Greater Manchester WA14 3BA. I would need 5 GCSE's above C grade.

JE2 Task 4

University of Salford


This is a university that I would consider going to, it offers a game design course which I would be interested in. This course would last 2 Years and it would be full time. This University course does not require any specific requirements. 

This course will train and help explore professional skills that are essential for the working world. All the skills learned throughout this course would allow me to get into game developer jobs. This course prepares you for the real world by allowing for work based experience.

University Of Bolton


This university is located at Deane Rd, Bolton BL3 5AB. This university offers a game design course which I would be interested in. This university will help teach software like Z Brush, Unity, Adobe products and more. These skills will be used to create out own game products which would go towards our portfolios. 

This course would give me skills to become part of a AAA studio. this course does not have any specific requirements for entry.


Manchester Metropolitan University

This university is located at Sandra Burslem Building, Manchester Metropolitan University, Lower Ormond St, Manchester M15 6BH. This university offers over 4 games design courses that each offer different things, some offer a three year course which is full time or you cant take a 4 year course with a sandwich year. This university has access to very good equipment and state of the art computer labs. After this course there are many opportunities that are available. the skills learned from this course allows for the student to go into many different media job roles.


University of Central Lancashire



This university offers two different games courses, one in Game Art and the other in Game Design. This university is located at New Bailey street, Manchester, M3 5FS, United Kingdom. This university course would help me get a feel of the real game design world, working towards real deadlines. This university boasts up to date facilities and classes taught by professionals in the industry. After the course at this university many opportunities open up to the student, students who have previously passed this course have gone to work at big gaming companies such as Riot Games and Naught Dog.



Leeds Beckett University

This university offers 2 Game Design Courses, one which is 3 years full time and another course that is 4 years with a sandwich year. This university will teach students how to create digital content of all parts of a game. The use of software such as Unity and Unreal Development Kit. Th
e entry requirements for this course is above C's in GCSE Maths and English

What do you have to do to start working in that industry?
I need to build a portfolio that shows all of the skills that I have learned and show my achievements to make myself look as best as I could. I would also have to adapt quickly to the ever changing gaming industry to stay on top. I would want to be a programmer for a well know company.

I have various skills such as Problem solving and teamwork, when working as a team I can connect/communicate with the people in the team and I can help brighten the mood by being funny but creative at the same time. I am punctual and reliable. Sometime when making projects negative show up and slow down progress, this could be a hard problem to solve something along those lines, the experience from this would lead to that problem not happening that often or never again.

JE2 Task 1 Portfolio
















All of these screenshots show my Portfolio, each of the skills that i have gained throughout the year are present in this website, I combined the artwork and the programming as it was easy to combine both the art and the programming. The first screenshot shows the home screen of the website, this gives te viewer direct access to all of my work. The second screenshot is of the Sound Design page, it gives some insight into my creation process and it gives examples via Soundcloud. The third is the opening screen of the Artistic/Programming Ability page. The fourth I the information present on the page and it gives some examples using slideshows. The last screenshot shows more information about the programming and gives even more examples using slideshows. Each of these screenshots shows the progression in my work in a short time fro example, the slideshow of the sprite art for the game Stinger Assault, the pods are much more deatiled

Task 1 Structure

Developers

Developers are the people/group which create the game. These people are involved in most aspects of the creation of the game from the story to the technical aspects of the game creation. The game development would most likely be split upon various teams which do single jobs which then get compiled at the end to create a full game.

Publisher

The publishers are the people/group that finance the Game Developers and maybe help the developers out. the Publishers also distribute the games that are created. the publishers can also hire extra staff for certain areas if needed.

Console Manufacturers/First Party Companies

Console Manufacturers/First party Companies are the companies that create the game consoles and the people that create the games that are exclusive to their console. examples are Sony's Playstation with Crash Bandicoot, Microsoft's XBox with Halo. 


Distribution and Retail

This sector of the Game Industry deals with the distribution of the games that developers create, this sector gives the games to various retailers and then the retailers sell the games to the public, examples of game retailers are Games, Steam etc.


Outsourcing Companies

This sector of the gaming industry allows for parts of development to be completed outside the company. this is used when there is nobody capable of doing a certain task to a high level. this can also speed up the process of the while operation by giving an outside company work to do whilst the main developers handle other tasks.


Press and Media

The Press and Media receive the game last and they are the sector that handles the advertisement of the game, they also write things about the game i increase the sales/rating of the game. The press and media also handle the announcement of the game.

Task 2 – Job Roles

Creative Development


Game Designer: These are the people/group that create the game. these people create the games and the mechanics and the story. They work very closely with the artists to create appropriate assets and art to go well with the mechanics of the game.

Level Editor: These are the people that design the levels of the game, the levels should accommodate the mechanics of the player to enhance the experience and to challenge the players skill. These people would also decide where assets in the level would go to make the level look good. The level designer would have to know how gamers play games to ensure that there are no breaks in the map that can be exploited. If there are any that sneak through the playtesters could figure these out and the level editor could fix the problem before the launch.
Lead Artists: The Lead Artist would take responsibility of the overall look of the game. the lead artists would also lead the animation team and the other art teams to make sure that the game looks like it should. its the job of the Lead Artist to guide the art direction of the whole project. This role would manage the whole of the artistic direction of the game.

Technical Artist: The Technical Artist is the role that creates the art that is the game, this role combines both the artists work and the programmers work in the game. The Technical artist also makes sure that art is easily put into the game and the art style is not compromised for the gameplay or gameplay is compromised for the art style.This role can be considered the link between the Atists and the Programmers.

Artist: This role has the aim to create the a assets for the game, they work closely with the lead artist too keep on track with the overall artistic style. they also work with the animator to make sure that all of the appropriate art is in use. This role creates the visuals for all aspects of the game from the background to the characters.

Animator: The animator makes everything that should move, move. This role takes the assets from the previous teams and gives them life. This role would work very closely with the Artist and the Lead Artist so there is no confusion whilst creating the characters movements. This role would also work with the game designers as they create the characters story so the animations would match the personality of the character. These people try to make the most out of the software to create the best product.

Audio Engineer: This role would handle all of the the sound/music assets for the game. sound Engineers would make, mix or edit sounds for the game. The sounds created would have to be appropriate to the game as if the sound is wrong for the game the whole experience could be ruined. These people also have to gather the talent needed to create good voice acting.


Technical Development

Game Developer: This role would be the role that created the code for the game, they would use game development tools and software to create the game mechanics. This role ensures that the game is completed on deadline and within budget.

Lead Game Programmer: This role would write code using programming languages like  C++ . This role would have experience in a specific console so that they can create the best games and the most efficient games for the amount of space/time. This role also manages the various builds of games, from the Alpha to the Beta.


Project Implementation

Project Manager/Producer: This role is to watch over all of the different roles and make sure that they are the doing the correct thing. This role would manage all of the people and overview the project as a whole. This tole ensures that the game is shipped on time and in the allotted budget.

Assistant Producer: This role would be the role that every other role reports to if there are any complications. This role would also help the other roles produce quick and high quality work to meet the deadline.

External Producer: This role is to ensure that the gameis delivered successfully, they dont work with the main crew as they work externally. This role acts as the link between the marketing team, game developers and the game publishers. Whilst other roles have much more direct goals this role has the job o dealing with a broader spectrum of jobs.

Creative Director: This role in the Games Industry is the role that pushes the whole project forward, they help with the ideas of the the game but also help with various other game ideas. If there is no immediate team hat can work on the game it is the Creative Directors job to get suitable people for the job


Quality Assurance

QA Tester: This role in the Gaming Industry make sure that the game is shipped with a good standard in quality. These testers test the game to find any mistakes or bugs within the game that need to be fixed before finishing the game. They also determine if that the game plays/looks like how they thought it would in the beginning. These people have to be knowledgeable about video games and how gamers play and try to break games so the final product could be as bug free as possible.


Business Development

Public Relation Manager: This role in the games industry would be responsible for the image and reputation of the organisation. This role could also play as the link between the organisation and the public. this role would set up the events for publicity reasons to gain hype for the game. 

Product Manager: This Roles job in the gaming industry is to create advertisement campaigns for the game to get the maximum amount of sales, the fate of the game could be in the roles hands as if the marketing campaigns are bad there won be as many sales.

Marketing Executive: This role in the games industry is to be the advertiser for the campaigns. They have to be creative and have to be knowledgeable about current events on TV and Internet to gain interest of the most amount of people. This role would try to spread the word of the games release and tries to hype the game up to increase the amount of sales possible.

Marketing Manager: This role in the games industry is the figure out the best was in which to advertise the employees project to the public. The Marketing Manager would be in charge of all of the advertisement resources ad they decide on where the resources go.
